Start a South Salt Lake Search
A useful search begins with the fact already known. A current street address points to the Salt Lake County Assessor, then to the Recorder. A court case calls for Utah Courts Xchange and, when remote access is too narrow, the clerk. A past resident may be easier to place in county archives, school material, or a dated directory than in a current web index. South Salt Lake City Hall is the right custodian for city council, contract, permit, license, and municipal administrative files.
Keep identity separate from coincidence. Two records bearing the same name do not prove that they concern the same person. Compare a middle name, date, party role, parcel, known street, associated business, or family relationship. Then confirm the key fact with a second official source.
- Write down the known name, name variants, address, date range, and relationship you are trying to confirm.
- Choose the record family that can answer that question: parcel, deed, court, license, vital, or historical record.
- Search the official index with both exact and wider spellings. Preserve directional parts of local street addresses.
- Read the result for role and date, not just the name. An owner, applicant, party, voter, and licensee are different connections.
- Use the counter, copy form, archives, or a focused GRAMA request when the online portal stops short.
South Salt Lake Search Offices
South Salt Lake is not the Salt Lake County seat, and its boundary does not create separate deed, tax, district-court, vital-record, or voter systems. County offices hold those trails. The City Recorder remains the gateway for local proceedings, contracts, permits, and records requests. This split matters because asking City Hall for a deed or the Recorder for a city code file sends the request to the wrong keeper.

South Salt Lake Parcel Search
The Salt Lake County Assessor property query is the best free bridge between a person and a current parcel. It accepts an owner, address, or parcel number. Enter an individual owner as “Last Name, First Name,” using at least the first three letters in the classic form. The address controls can be widened with a frontage number or street component, while a parcel search can use the first seven digits to return a block.
| Search input | How South Salt Lake records use it | Result value |
|---|---|---|
| Owner | Last name, first name; three-letter minimum in the classic query | Connects an assessed owner to a parcel |
| Address | Frontage, direction, street, type, and suffix can be separated | Finds the site and its parcel ID |
| Parcel number | Full ID or a shorter block-level prefix | Bridges Assessor, GIS, and Recorder systems |
The public parcel data supports owner name, situs or physical address, acres, tax and property class, exemption fields, GIS coordinates, and valuation history. It does not prove who occupies the site. The official schema reviewed also did not establish that a separate owner mailing address always appears on the public detail page.
The Assessor GIS resources show how county parcel data moves into the map system.
Use the mapped parcel boundary to check jurisdiction and nearby parcels, then carry the exact parcel ID into the recorded-document search.
South Salt Lake Deed Trails
The Recorder’s free property search is keyed to an address or parcel number. It returns a quick list of documents recorded against that property, but it is not an unrestricted, free grantor and grantee name index. A grantor transfers an interest; a grantee receives it. Paid Data Services adds legal descriptions, parcel-number history, tract indexes, chain of title, document access, and subdivision or plat tools.
Start with the Assessor result, copy the parcel number, and open the Recorder Public Search.
The free list identifies instruments worth ordering. Copies cost $2 per recorded page; a certified copy adds a $5 certification charge. Historical or vault copies cost $5 per page. When a document number is unknown, the copy form accepts an index or abstract book and page, line, party names, date, and document type.
The Recorder also offers free Property Watch alerts for later documents tied to a registered parcel.
An alert is a prompt to inspect a new recording. It does not prevent fraud, prove validity, or replace the deed and title record.
- Index
- A finding tool that points to a record. It may not include the full image.
- Legal description
- The lot, block, subdivision, survey, or boundary language that defines the land.
- Certified copy
- A copy carrying the custodian’s formal certification, with added fees.
- Situs address
- The property’s physical location, which is not the same as proof of residence.
Search South Salt Lake Court Records
South Salt Lake Justice Court handles Class B and C misdemeanors, city ordinance cases, infractions, traffic, and small claims. Utah Third District Court handles the county’s broader civil, family, probate, felony, and Class A misdemeanor work. Public district and justice-court case summaries appear in Utah Courts Xchange, though remote use requires an account and fees.
| System | South Salt Lake coverage | Access route |
|---|---|---|
| Justice Court | Traffic, infractions, small claims, Class B/C misdemeanors | Xchange or court clerk |
| Third District Court | Civil, probate, divorce, felony, Class A criminal cases | Xchange, courthouse terminal, or copy request |
| Federal court | Federal civil and criminal dockets | PACER and the federal clerk |
Xchange can search a name, company, case number, court, case type, birth date where available, citation number, and date ranges. Utah Courts recommends a trailing wildcard for name variants. Results cap at 500, so common names need a court, county, date, or case-type filter.
The Xchange entry screen shows the account-based route used for remote court research.
Free public Xchange access is available at most district courthouses and the State Law Library. Call the local justice court before relying on terminal availability there.
South Salt Lake Case Limits
A docket is the court’s running case record. It can show filing dates, parties, roles, events, judges, and dispositions, but the presence of a filing does not prove an allegation. Sealed and expunged matters, juvenile and adoption records, and other safeguarded material do not appear as ordinary public results. Some public history may remain visible while a linked document is restricted.
No result is not proof that no case exists. Search spelling, court scope, date, pre-digital archives, and legal restrictions can all cause a miss. The Third District copy process accepts a case number and document description, with choices for plain, certified, or exemplified copies. Private documents require proof of party status or notarized permission and cannot be sent by email.
The Utah Department of Corrections offender search is a separate name or offender-number tool for people now under state supervision.
It excludes people held only in county jail before sentence, so compare the proper jail, court, and Corrections channels without treating any one result as a complete history.
Use records lawfully. Compare sources with care, respect protection orders and private classifications, and never use a name or address to stalk, threaten, or harass anyone.
South Salt Lake Vital Records
Recent vital certificates are restricted records, not open name directories. The Utah Office of Vital Records and Statistics maintains Utah birth and death certificates plus marriage and divorce abstracts. Salt Lake County Health Department supplies a local birth, death, marriage-abstract, and divorce-abstract channel for eligible applicants. The County Clerk holds marriage-license records, while the Third District Court holds divorce decrees and case files.
Under Utah Code §26B-8-125 and related Archives rules, birth records generally open after 100 years, deaths after 50 years, and marriages or divorces after 75 years. Recent certified copies require eligible status, identification, and a fee. The Utah certificate page is the official place to check current forms and ordering choices.
For older events, move to Utah State Archives and Salt Lake County Archives indexes instead of trying to bypass the eligibility rule.
South Salt Lake Archive Search
Salt Lake County Archives offers dated local series that reach well before the city government. Its online portal searches births from 1890 through 1911, deaths from 1847 through 1949, marriage licenses from 1887 through 1904, tax appraisal cards from the 1970s through 1991, and land certificates from 1851 through 1895. Broader deeds, court files, naturalization records, maps, tax rolls, and government collections may require an appointment.
The Utah State Archives catalog adds series guides for vital, court, probate, land, cemetery, military, and naturalization research.
A catalog describes who created a series and when it runs. It is not always a name index, so use the series title and date to plan an archives request.
Search South Salt Lake Before 1938
South Salt Lake municipal records cannot cover a time before the present town was created. Central Park incorporated in 1936, disincorporated in 1937, and returned under the South Salt Lake name by county resolution on September 29, 1938. Earlier residents may appear under Central Park, Millcreek, Southgate, a ward, Granite School District, Salt Lake County, or a Salt Lake City-area heading.
The geography also shifted later. In the 1990s, South Salt Lake annexed land to the south and nearly doubled in land and population. A parcel now inside the city may have older permits and directories filed only under the county or another locality, while the deed and tax chain stayed in Salt Lake County throughout.
Granite School District, formed in 1904, and Granite High, opened in 1906, bridge part of that municipal gap. Yearbooks, school publications, board material, newspapers, and county land records can place a family decades before South Salt Lake had its own recorder.
South Salt Lake Address Variants
The Salt Lake Valley grid makes direction part of the search. In an address such as 2700 South 300 East, both coordinates matter. Dropping “South” or “East,” reversing them, or using abbreviations that do not match an older index can create a false miss. Try normalized forms, then use the parcel number when the address text still fails.
A postal label can say South Salt Lake, Salt Lake City, or another routing city without settling municipal jurisdiction. ZIP codes 84115 and 84119 do not trace the exact boundary. Use the county parcel map and a dated city boundary source, particularly for older permits, licenses, and elections. Vidas and Beryl avenues also carry older local history: the city says they preserve the names of developer Jesse Fox Jr.’s daughters.
South Salt Lake License Search
The city’s business-license archive acts as a rare local name list. Monthly issued-license reports and an all-active list can show a business or person name, license type, and sometimes an operating address. The active list is only a dated snapshot. It should be paired with Utah’s entity record and the proper occupational regulator.
| Official source | What it confirms | What it cannot prove alone |
|---|---|---|
| City license report | Local license category and city connection | Current state entity status |
| Utah entity search | Legal entity, status, agent, and filings | Authority to operate at a city address |
| DOPL license lookup | Regulated profession, status, and license details | Every local business relationship |
Search in that order to avoid confusing state registration with a city license or a professional credential. The city also divides renewals at 200 West and TRAX, with east-side categories renewing in January and west-side categories in August. That split appears in the license types themselves.
South Salt Lake Public Directories
The city staff directory searches by category, first name, or last name and lists work contact details for selected staff and officials. Granite School District organizes current contacts by school rather than municipal boundary. State employee, professional-license, business, bar, college, chamber, cemetery, and public-notice directories each cover a narrower relationship.
None is a complete resident list. A staff entry proves an official work role; a chamber entry reflects voluntary membership; a license shows regulated standing; and a directory volume is a snapshot from its publication year. The full South Salt Lake people directories treatment distinguishes these scopes and their search fields.
South Salt Lake Voter Lookup
Utah Voter Search is designed for a voter to check that voter’s own registration. It requires first name, last name, full birth date, Salt Lake County, and the house number from the registered address. It can return status and election details, but it is not a public surname directory. The statewide voter file is a separate paid product with protected fields removed and at-risk identities withheld.
South Salt Lake voters are maintained by Salt Lake County Elections in Utah’s statewide system. Municipal election work is coordinated with the City Recorder. Current public and protected field rules, the 2026 privacy change, and every access route are covered on the South Salt Lake voter records page.
South Salt Lake Custodian Requests
Utah’s Government Records Access and Management Act, or GRAMA, gives any person a route to inspect or copy public records. It does not force an office to create an answer, and it does not open private, controlled, protected, sealed, or otherwise restricted material. A request works best when it names the record type, person or address, date range, creating department, and desired electronic format.
South Salt Lake accepts a digital form, a downloadable form delivered to the Recorder, or the Utah Open Records Portal. Ordinary city requests may take up to 10 business days. The city form also provides a five-business-day expedited branch with supporting documentation. Fees can cover lawful duplication and certain staff work, while the form includes fee-waiver and nonpublic-access branches.
The South Salt Lake GRAMA page exposes this full routing process.
Ask the City Recorder to route a defined city file. For county records, use the county portal or office that prepares, owns, or retains the requested series.
Verify South Salt Lake Search Results
Commercial people-finder results may merge namesakes or preserve an old address. Official sources answer smaller questions with clearer custody. An assessor result names an assessed owner, a deed records a land transfer, a docket records a court event, and a directory records a role or listing at a point in time. None should be stretched beyond that function.
Scam claims deserve the same discipline. Verify deed-copy offers against Recorder prices, search unclaimed funds only through Utah’s official system, and call a court or police number published by the agency rather than one in a threat message. Public access is a tool for family history, civic review, estate work, reconnection, and careful consumer verification. It is not permission to harass, impersonate, or defeat a protection order.
Note: Save the source, date, record number, and party role so a later change can be checked against the original custodian.
